Vucic and Dacic on Russia: Serbia will never support a coup in any country

Commenting on yesterday’s events in Russia, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that Serbia will never support a coup d’état in any country and any coup with the use of the army, the MIA correspondent from Belgrade reported.

We did not support that in Turkey either, we would not support it in America either. These are things you must not allow. The government changes in elections, according to the will of the citizens, said Vucic on TV Pink.

He stated that this event will have consequences, both on the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine, but also on the internal political situation in Russia.

He also emphasized that “he does not want to talk about who supported the rebellion from the outside, but there is no doubt that there is help from abroad.”

Vucic also said it was a mistake for Russia to give Wagner too much power.

When you see some businessmen, as soon as they grab millions, they think that they should rule the country and the whole world and appoint whomever they want. And they think that they have achieved without the help of the state. And imagine giving someone 3,000 tanks, 10 planes, 150 helicopters, what will he think in one moment – said Vucic.

He added that the issue of defense is the task of the state and that Serbia made a similar mistake in the 90s, which the Russians are repeating now.

Just as Zelenski was wrong with his statements and supported Wagner, Vucic said.

When asked how Putin’s weakening would affect Serbia, Vucic said he could talk about it but didn’t want to.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, said that Serbia does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, and it is the same with the events in the Russian Federation, saying that official Belgrade respects the legal authorities of each country, because they are in power comes and she leaves through elections.

He emphasized that lessons should be learned from the attempted armed insurgency in Russia about the influence of private paramilitary companies on war as well as peacetime events.

  • The situation is now normalized, but questions remain as to who was the target of the owner of the private paramilitary forces “Wagner” Evgeny Prigozhin – President Vladimir Putin or the military leadership, Dacic said.
