A secret weapon that no one would suspect | How America and Russia trained animals for military purposes | Video

British military spies have revealed that Russia may be training fighter dolphins in the annexed Crimean peninsula to defend Black Sea ports and send them to fight Ukrainian forces. However, it is not the first time that fighting animals such as dolphins and whales have been used in battles. Especially on the Russian side and on Ukrainian territory.

Even during the Cold War, the then Soviet Union had a military dolphin training center in Sevastopol. The dolphins were trained to detect submarine mines, but also to plant explosive devices and carry spy equipment. Because who would suspect a dolphin, right?

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, this military center passed into the hands of Ukraine and turned into an amusement park with dolphins. Even ex-military dolphins are being used to treat autistic children in Ukraine. But this does not mean that Russia has stopped such activities.

Although there is no official information about the development of the Russian combat animal program, it is rumored that the Russian dolphins were in Syria and that in the naval base in Tartus.

Interestingly, in 2019, a tame beluga whale was discovered in Norway that was found with a GoPro camera strap and is believed to be a “Russian defector” who simply decided to switch sides during a reconnaissance mission.

Already last year, satellite images of Crimea and Sevastopol revealed the presence of a large number of dolphins in the waters of that port, which military experts interpreted as a Russian attempt to defend itself from Ukrainian naval special forces. It was speculated that Ukrainian divers might try to infiltrate the naval base, which trained dolphins would prevent.
