Kovachevski on the independence of the judiciary

104views

“The dismissal of the president of the Judicial Council were scenes that did not befit the highest authority in the judiciary. From the very first day when I became the President of the Government, I said that neither I, as the President, nor any minister interferes in the work of the Judicial Council or the Council of Prosecutors. It could also be confirmed through a direct broadcast from the Judicial Council.

I can say that I have never personally had a meeting with any president of the court or president of the Judicial Council. The judiciary is an independent authority. If someone interfered with them, they should report it themselves through an appropriate procedure” Kovacevski says.

Kovacevski commented on the reaction of the Ministry of Justice and the request to see the minutes of the session itself, at which yesterday’s president of the Judicial Council, Vesna Dameva, was dismissed.
