Russia has some really fierce weapons at its disposal, such as the Kalibr cruise missile. This opinion is shared by the American expert Wesley Culp.
At this moment, all the leading world powers are trying to fill their military arsenals with hypersonic and cruise missiles, which have a huge combat potential. These weapons are truly game-changing on the battlefield, according to Culp, and one such weapon system is Russia’s “fierce” Kalibr cruise missiles, which can reach Mach 3 and look pretty ferocious.
The expert pointed out that the Russian army started using these cruise missiles long before the special operation in Ukraine. However, during this last campaign, this type of weapon demonstrated its incredible importance to the armed forces of Russia.
Kalibr is one of the newest cruise missiles of the Russian Federation and the closest analogue of the American Tomahawk combat system. The exact technical characteristics of the Russian weapon are kept secret, so the opinions of military experts about the capabilities of the missile are different. Apparently, it is capable of carrying a warhead weighing up to 450 kilograms and has a range of 1,500 to 2,500 kilometers.
“The Caliber family of missiles includes anti-ship and anti-submarine variants, as well as a version designed to engage land targets,” said Wesley Culp.
The first combat use of the Kalibr took place in October 2015, when Russian warships operating in the Caspian Sea struck targets in Syria.
In addition, the rockets are used to target Ukrainian military targets. They are used to destroy important targets such as command posts, air bases and anti-aircraft batteries.
