Counterfeit smartphones contain malware to monitor WhatsApp conversations

173views

Applications that enable secure conversations by encrypting them are a big target for breaching this protection. Dr. The web company discovered one way, and that is through the sale of counterfeit smartphones that have malicious software in them.

Specifically, the company has discovered smartphones that are made to look like some of those of well-known brands, and the malicious software in them is intended to monitor conversations in WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp Business.

The company points out that an older version of Android, 4.4.2, is installed on these smartphones, which does not have today’s protections, so the malicious software can do its job.

The phones they have tested have similar names to those they want to “imitate”, i.e. P48Pro, radmi note 8, Note30u and Mate40.

So far, we have not heard of the sale of such phones in our country, so we believe that either there is no or a small number of users who may be subject to this fraud.
