The story of Enzo Maiorca and the dolphin

472views

The famous Italian diver Enzo Maiorca dived into the sea near Syracuse with his daughter Rossana, who remained on board.

While diving, he felt something lightly tap his back. He turned and saw a dolphin. In a moment he realized that he didn’t want to play, but that he was telling him something.

In an instant the dolphin dived to the depths, and Enzo dived after him.

At a depth of about 15 meters, he found another dolphin caught in an abandoned net. He immediately asked his daughter for a diving knife. In a few minutes, they managed to free the dolphin, which let out an almost human scream with its last strength.

Dolphins can stay underwater for 10 minutes and then drown.

The freed, still lone dolphin, Enzo, Rosana and the first dolphin came to the surface. Only then did it turn out to be a female dolphin who moments later gave birth to a young dolphin.

Rosanna and Enzo

The father dolphin circled Enzo, swam up to him and touched his cheek (like a kiss) as a gesture of thanks and swam away.

After all that happened, Enzo said:

Until man learns to respect nature and talk to the animal world, he will never know his true role on Earth!

Vincenzo Enzo Maiorca (Syracuse, Sicily, June 21, 1931, Syracuse, November 13, 2016), was a successful and famous Italian diver.

He is the first diver to dive below 50 meters in competitions. He held 13 world records according to “no limit” standards between 1960 and 1974.

The film, The Big Blue (1988) , directed by Luc Besson , is about the growth of Enzo Maiorca and his rival Jacques Mayol and the rivalry between them.
