The omicron-targeting vaccine can be given as a “booster”

A special vaccine against the coronavirus, adapted for the omicron variant, can be used as a booster dose to boost immunity, a World Health Organization (WHO) advisory group said.

According to available data, such a vaccine may benefit those who are already fully vaccinated, the WHO panel on the content of vaccines against Covid-19 said, reports Hina, citing Reuters.

Vaccines may be considered for global use when approved for emergency use or when approved by the appropriate regulatory authorities.

Vaccine manufacturers such as Moderna and Pfizer are developing a potential additional dose of the new generation that will target the omicron variant of the coronavirus in addition to the original strain.

Moderna said last week that the new variant of its vaccine showed a better immune response against omicron than the original version.

This week, the European Medicines Agency began testing Moderna and Pfizer’s vaccine, adapted to the omicron variant.
