If you get different values when measuring the pressure several times in a row, the problem is probably that you did not prepare properly.

In our photo gallery, find out what you need to do to get accurate readings from your blood pressure monitor.

People with hypertension are advised to check their blood pressure daily. The blood pressure device can be bought at any pharmacy, but it is crucial that the blood pressure measurement at home is done according to the rules of the profession, because only then will you get accurate results.

If it happens that the blood pressure measuring device shows different values several times in a row, most likely the problem is not in it, but you are making certain mistakes in the process.

Find out below how to measure your blood pressure correctly in five steps.

1. Empty your bladder before taking your blood pressure

A full bladder makes a person nervous and restless, which increases blood pressure. Due to a full bladder, the measured value may be 5-10 mmHg higher than the actual value.

2. Take a break

It is necessary to rest for at least five minutes in an armchair or chair, in the place where you plan to measure the pressure. Don’t talk, don’t get excited, and give up walking up and down – because all this increases the pressure.

3. Adjust properly

You must sit in a chair or an armchair that is comfortable for you. In addition, you should ideally have support for your arms, back and legs.

4. Hand position is very important

Lift up the sleeve of the arm on which you will measure the pressure. It is best to place your hand on the table at heart level. For the first time, measure the pressure of both hands, and whichever one shows a higher value, you will measure it in the future.

5. Stay humble

Do not talk or move during the measurement. Excitement can also affect the result, so the pressure value can be several tens of mmHg higher than the real one.

Before measuring the pressure, you must not drink coffee or black tea, because they can increase the values, and avoid energy drinks.
