“British Airways” canceled 10,000 flights due to lack of staff

110views

British Airways has announced another round of flight cancellations, scrapping 10,000 flights to and from Heathrow until the end of March next year as it adjusts to a persistent staff shortage that has hit the aviation industry, the Guardian reports.

The carrier’s decision to cut its short-haul timetable by 8% comes after London Airport extended its 100,000-a-day summer limit on passenger numbers for another six weeks until the end of October and asked airlines to sell fewer flights.

Heathrow’s move comes after airlines have spent two years dealing with the crisis caused by the pandemic, struggling to find staff to meet the rebound in demand from business travelers and tourists, leading to chaos and long queues for the holidays.
